From Sketch to Stone: How Custom Development Works
How an idea becomes a stone product: the design review, prototyping and detail stages that turn a drawing into an object you can approve.
A clear brief lets us assess how an object can be made in stone. The development process moves from your design through a prototype to an agreed specification, with decisions recorded at each stage.
The Design Review
We confirm use, dimensions, quantities and the key visual features, and identify which details matter most. Sections, cavities, joints, openings and any inserts are reviewed, and we agree the proposed construction before sampling. Colour range, vein direction, surface finish and the acceptable treatment of natural features are discussed at the same time.
Sampling and Refinement
A prototype turns the design discussion into an object you can review. You assess proportions, material appearance, surface finish and the important interfaces, and we coordinate the agreed revisions. The approved drawing, material selection and sample details are then kept together as the production reference.
Details That Complete the Product
Edges, interiors, bases and fittings deserve the same attention as the visible face. The finish and how it continues around rims, corners and transitions is agreed; the usable space and interior finish are reviewed for cleaning and access; and interfaces with metal, wood, lining or inserts are confirmed where specified, along with protective pads and contact surfaces.
Start Your Development
You can begin with a complete drawing or an early idea. Send a design reference (drawings, sketches, 3D files, reference photographs or a description), target dimensions and intended use, material and appearance direction, and quantity and budget where available. We will review how the object can be made and what to agree next.
